Om Sri Bairavaya Namah
Om Let us meditate on the form of Lord Bhairava, who holds a scull in his
divine hands, whose ears are adorned with ear - rings, who is holding a
staff, whose complexion is blue like the sky in the early evening, who
wears a snake as his sacred thread. In any yagna- ceremony, he is the
protector, every noble soul and is a most valiant fighter. Glory be to Lord
Vatuka, who is Lord Bhairava in his adolescent form, fiver of spiritual
perfection to sadhakas.
Om kara kalaita kapalah kundali dandapanih
Taruna timira nilah vyalah ya jnopaviti.
Kratu samaya saparya vighna viccheda hetuh
Jayati vatuka nathah siddhidah sadhakanam.
1. Bhairava is the Lord of ghosts and is accepted by them as their
master. He has knowledge of everything that exists in the universe,
being its protector. As a great warrior, he is the giver of dominion.
Bhairavo bhutanathasca bhutama bhutabhavanah.
Ksaitra jnah ksetrapalasca ksetradah ksatriyo virat.
2. As a fighter he excels in valour, he dwells on burial - grounds,
consuming the flesh of corpses; in his hands he holds a scull- bowl,
from which he drinks blood and intoxicants. As a perfected being,
he bestows divine perfection as is worshipped by perfected beings.
Smasanavasi mansasi kharparasi smarantokrit.
Raktapah paanah siddhah siddhidah siddha sevitah.
3. He wears a garland of skeleton - bones. He is of a lean from, has a
sweet soothing nature, but he may also destroy, his eyes then taking
on a reddish hue. He has three eyes, all of a yellow colour.
Kankalah kalasamanah kalakasthatanuh kavih.
Trinertro bahunet rasca tatha pingala locanah.
4. He holds a lance and a sward in his hands and his eyes burn like fire.
As the fearless Lord of Bhairavis, the beings in his female aspect, he
is master of ghosts and consort of yoginis.
Sulapanih kharggapanih kankali dhumralocanah.
Adhiruh bairvainatho bhutaapo yoginipatih.
5. He is both the bestower of wealth and its destroyer, being himself
Lord of all riches. He is master of all divine knowledge. He wears a
necklace and belt of snakes and snake in his hair, while his hands
hold a scull.
Dhanado dhanaharica dhanavan pratibhanavan.
Nagharo ngapaso vyomakesah kapalabhrit.
6.As a conqueror of death, he wears a beautiful garland of sculls which
decorates him most artfully. His three eyes burn like fire, and as the
protector of the three worlds, he has three heads.
Kalah kapalamalica kamaniyah kalanidhih.
Trilocano jvalannetra strisiki ca trilokapah.
7.He is Lord Siva’s son and lives inside the womb
of the peaceful aspect, he loves all those of peaceful disposition.
In the adolescent aspect of Vatuka, his dress is that of a young boy; in this
from, he always holds a sword.
Trinetratanayo dimbhah santah santa janapriyah.
Vatuka bahuvesasca khatvangavaradharakah.
8. He is the ruler over all the spirits and the one who collects alms of
Lord Siva, at whose constant service he is. Clothed with the four directions
of space, he is invincible, being of supreme valour. His eyes a yellow hue
are shaped like that of the deer.
Bhutadhyaksah pasupatirbhiksuka paricarakah.
Dhurto digambarah suro harinah padulocanah.
9. He is forever peaceful, his being perfected and as such most dear to
Lord Siva,
the benevolent Lord; His aspects are eight - fold and he has control over all
wealth. His eyes express profoundes t knowledge and his whole form
shines with the glow of intense penance.
Prasantah santidah siddhah sankara – priyabandhavah.
Astamurtirnibhisasca jnanacaksustapomayah.
10. He is the root of the eight - fold and six- fold yogic path, wearing
snakes on his hair like a crown. He is the sustainer of this world and of
the world beyond, the Lord of the earth and Siva’s son.
Astatdharah sadaharah sarpayuktah sikhisakhah.
bhudharo bhuvaradhiso bhupatirbhudharatmajah.
11.In his skeleton form, he wears a garland of sculls, carries a scull in his
hand, and wears a snake as his sacred thread. He exercises his divine gifts
of making people unconscious, of attracting them strongly, striking them
with immobility, taking their lives, and making them weep bitterly.
Kankaladhari mundi ca naga ya jnopavitavan.
Jrimbhano mohanastambhi marana ksobhanastatha.
12.His white eyes are lined with blue. As the killer of all evil spirits, he is
the protector of the gods. Wearing a garland of sculls, he accepts animal
sacrifice, being the Lord of those who partake in such sacrifice. He is a
adolescent bout, but his valour is that of a seasoned fighter.
Suddhonilanj jana prakhyo daityaha mundabhusitah.
Balibhugbalibhungnatho balobalaparakramah.
13. He is the remover of all calamities, killing all evil, like the Goddess
Durga. His knowledge of sex is supreme and he bestows it on all who seek
it. He has the power to attract beautiful maidens.
Sarvapattarano durgo dustabhuta nisevitah.
Kami kalanidhih kantahah kaminivasakritvasi.
14. He is the protector of the whole world, being eternal, and has the
power to create many kinds of illusions. He has great knowledge of
healing mantras and is the most renowned physician. His like Lord Visnu,
who, with divine knowledge, sustains the world.
Jagadraksakaro ananto maya mantrausadhimayah.
Sarva siddhiprado vaidyah prabhurvisnu ritivahi.
15. Oh Goddess, by reciting these hundred and eight names of Bhairava
which I have told you, all one’s desires are fulfilled, for they are most
mysterious powerful mantras.
Astottarasatam namnam bhairavasya mahatmanah.
Mayate kathitamdevi rahasyam sarvakamadam.
16. He who reads these verses containing the hundred and eight divine
names will not suffer any calamity, nor will he be visited bay any evil.
Ya- idam maribhayam tasya graha ra jabhayam tatha.
Na strubhyo bhayam kincit prapnuyamanavah kvacit.
17. He will be free from epidemics and will not suffer the consequences
of inauspicious constellations of the planets. No earthly power can do him
harm, his enemies cannot strike him with fear, nor will he be harassed by
any man.
Na ca maribhayam tasya graha ra jabhayam tatha.
Na satrubhyo bhyam kincit prapnuyanmanava kvacit,
18. Repeating these verses, even his sins will not trouble him and
chanting these hundred and eight names will bestow on him every
perfection.
Patakanam bhayamnaiva ya pathet strota mutaman.
Sarva siddhi mavaphoti, namasta sata kirtanamt.

8 verses on Kala Bhairava
1.
Deva raja sevya mana pavangri pankajam,
Vyala yagna suthra mindu shekaram krupakaram,
Naradadhi yogi vrundha vandhitham digambaram,
Kasika puradhi nadha Kalabhairavam bhaje.
I salute Kalabhairava, the lord of the city of Kasi, Whose lotus like feet is being
served by Devendra, Who is merciful and wears the moon on his forehead, Who
wears a snake as his sacred thread, Who wears the different directions as his
cloth, And who is worshipped by sages like Narada.
2.
Bhanu koti bhaswaram, bhavabdhi tharakam param,
Neelakanda meepsidartha dayakam trilochanam,
Kalakala mambujaksha maksha soola maksharam,
Kasika puradhi nadha Kalabhairavam bhaje.
I salute Kalabhairava, the lord of the city of Kasi, Who shines like billions of
suns, Who helps us cross this miserable ocean of life, Who is supreme and has a
blue neck, Who has three eyes and grants us our desires, Who is the death to the
God of death[4], Who has lotus flower like eyes, Who has the undefeatable
trident, And who does not have decay.

Soola tanga pasa danda pani madhi karanam,
Syama kaya madhi devamaksharam niramayam,
Bheema vikramam prabhum vichithra thandava priyam,
Kasika puradhi nadha Kalabhairavam bhaje.
I salute Kalabhairava, the lord of the city of Kasi, Who has a spear, a chord and a
stick as weapons, Who is black in colour and the primeval cause, Who is deathless
and the first God, Who is free from decay and ill health, Who is the Lord who is a
great hero, And who likes the special vigorous thandava.
4.
Bhukthi mukthi dayakam prasashtha charu vigraham,
Bhaktha vatsalam shivam, samastha loka vigraham,
Vinikwanan manogna hema kinkini lasath kateem,
Kasika puradhi nadha Kalabhairavam bhaje.
I salute Kalabhairava, the lord of the city of Kasi, Who fulfills desires and also grants
salvation, Who is well known for his pretty mien, Who is a form of Shiva,who loves
his devotees, Who is the God of the entire world, Who assumes various forms, And
who has a golden waist thread, On which jingling bells are tied.
5.
Dharma sethu palakam, thwa dharma marga nasakam,
Karma pasa mochakam, susharma dayakam vibhum,
Swarna varna sesha pasa shobithanga mandalam,
Kasika puradhi nadha Kalabhairavam bhaje.
I salute Kalabhairava, the lord of the city of Kasi, Who maintains the bridge of
dharma in life, Who destroys paths which are not right, Who saves us from the ties
of Karma, Who is the lord who makes us ashamed, When trying to do wrong
things, Who has a shining body because of golden rope, With bells tied in various
places.
6.
Rathna padukha prabhabhirama padayugmakam,
Nithyamadwidheeyamishta daivatham niranjanam,
Mrutyu darpa nasanam karaladamshtra mokshanam,
Kasika puradhi nadha Kalabhairavam bhaje.
I salute Kalabhairava, the lord of the city of Kasi, Who has feet adorned by the
shine of gem studded sandals, Who is eternal and does not have any one second to
him, Who is our favorite God who bestows everything, Who takes away the fear of
death from humans, And who grants them salvation by his terrible teeth.
7.
Attahasa binna padma janda kosa santhatheem,
Drushti pada nashta papa jala mugra sasanam,
Ashtasidhi dayakam kapala malikadaram,
Kasika puradhi nadha Kalabhairavam bhaje.
I salute Kalabhairava, the lord of the city of Kasi, Whose loud roar is enough to
destroy all those created by Brahma, Whose sight is sufficient to destroy all
sins, Who is crafty and strict ruler, Who can grant the eight occult powers, And who
wears the garland of skulls.
8.
Bhootha sanga nayakam, vishala keerthi dayakam,
Kasi vasa loka punya papa shodhakam vibum,
Neethi marga kovidham purathanam jagatpathim,
Kasika puradhi nadha Kalabhairavam bhaje.
I salute Kalabhairava, the lord of the city of Kasi, Who is the chief of the society of
Bhoothas, Who grants broad based fame, Who is the lord who judges good and bad
deeds, Of those who live in Varanasi, Who is an expert in the way of
righteousness, And who is eternally old and lord of the universe.
Kalabhairavashtakam patanthi yea manoharam,
Jnana mukthi sadhanam, vichithra punya vardhanam,
Soka moha dainya lopa kopa thapa nasanam,
Thea prayanthi Kalabhairavangri saniidhim druvam.
Those who read this enticing octet on Kalabhairava, Which is the source of eternal
knowledge, Which increases the effect of righteous deeds, And which destroys grief,
passion, poverty, want and anger, Would surely reach the holy presence of
Kalabhairava.
